Amidst the piles of excrement being dumped everywhere by the MoJ, the BSB have helped out by having a consultation of when barristers should (or shouldn’t) be returning cases. I’m never one to resist a consultation and this one is short. There are only four questions but they can be summarised as “do you mind if the government cuts what they pay you, unilaterally and without notice“?
It is phrased more delicately than that, so delicately that it implies that there’s no real issue (if so, why change things?). I’m sure it is well intentioned, but it comes across as being rather inflammatory. The deadline is 25th April*, so get cracking.
My draft response to the consultation is here and is short. It basically says ‘oh please leave me alone and go and get a proper job, and quite possibly a haircut‘, but spread over a couple of pages in a more polite format. As always, steal anything you find useful, but make sure you get a response in.
